A Place to Put Your Pocketbook

Seeing a pocketbook on the floor just breaks my heart. A pocketbook can be one of the most expensive and beautiful accessories a woman can own. There is never a reason or occasion when it’s okay to subject your pocketbook to the indignity of dragging on the filthy floor or ground. Sometimes, it can get in the way of our daily lives. However, there are elegant and sophisticated ways to handle your pocketbook.

What to do with the pocketbook:

  1. Hang by the handle over the arm of the chair. This keeps the pocketbook in your line of vision and safe from sticky fingers.
  2. Position the pocketbook next to you on the seat. This can only work if your thighs leave enough room between your body and the arm of the chair. If your thighs touch the side of the chair, please do not even try.
  3. Hang the pocketbook over the back of the chair. Whereas this keeps the pocketbook off the ground and out of your way, it also leaves the valuable contents of your bag vulnerable to theft.
  4. Some bars have hooks strategically placed under the bar precisely for the purpose of hanging pocketbooks. Take a second to quickly check if those are available before keeping your pocketbook in your lap or placing it on top of the bar.
  5. You can also keep your pocketbook in your lap. I am not a fan of this option, as it can look awkward with anything larger than a clutch. However, it is a better choice than the floor.
  6. Table purse hook. This is a very cool gadget that you can discreetly take anywhere in any size pocketbook or purse. The hook allows you to hang the pocketbook from the corner of a desk or a table.

Tardy For The Party

You are not fashionably late. Your disregard for time, deadlines and schedules let’s us all know that you are fickle, flaky and a fool.

Early = on time.

On time = running late.

Late = It’s better that you do not show up.

Reasons to be punctual:

  • Show the host and guests that you value their time, and your time is equally important.
  • Have an opportunity to be part of the start of the conversation, versus interrupting and playing catch up.
  • Be in the same mood and flow of the other guests. They probably had a few sips of cocktails and already have a buzz.
  • Reduces stress and makes you appear poised and in control.
  • Demonstrate that you are responsible and reliable, especially if it’s an important meeting or interview.

Keep Your Feet Grounded

Last week I was in a popular coffee shop and a young lady next to me got comfortable. I am okay with that. However, I almost spat out my overpriced chai latte (grande, whole, extra hot, no water,  with a sprinkle of cinnamon) when she put her feet up on a chair. On a chair! In public!

This is why you are wrong to put up your feet in public:

  1. Inconsiderate. You’re taking up too much space with extended legs, and getting in the way of others.
  2. Posture. Its not a good look for your body and wardrobe.
  3. Dirty. The bottom of your shoes/feet are literally beneath you and not meant for display.
